In Literacy we are working on becoming more descriptive writers. We are currently brainstorming to create our own Superheroes and will be writing a descriptive piece of writing about them.
During the month of November we are going are continuing to listen to our inner voices as readers, and tracking our thinking using our reading books. In October we started to focus specifically on making connections, text to self, text to text, and text to world, and we will be continuing on this learning path throughout November as well. We have learned how to APE (answer, prove, extend/elaborate/expand) our connections and are currently using "juicy" picture books to practice.
In writing, we ended October with a 5 senses carnival, which kicked off our descriptive writing focus. Throughout this unit we will be learning to be more descriptive writers who create visuals for our readers. We will do this by including more interesting and descriptive vocabulary in our writing.
We are continuing our read aloud of "Wonder", and are really enjoying the different perspectives presented in the text. Ask us about what is happening!
I
n language we have started the first twenty days of reading. So far we have discussed how we show we are thinking when we are reading, the things that help us as readers, what independent reading looks like and sounds like in our class, how to find a good fit in a book, when it is okay to abandon a book, and fiction genres.
Right now our class is reading "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. We are practising discussing our thinking while we read this book together.
We are also working on our first piece of a writing and learning about the writing process.
